Episode 41

Hello guys!

This is my very first post as a member of the Art Lab crew. SO EXCITED!!

Today, we’ll be doing some ocean/sea themed ATC’s. Unsure what an ATC is? Check out our page. The finished product will be similar to this:

I did this on a 8.5 by 11 sheet of watercolor paper with the Dr. P.H. Martin’s Bombay Inks. Don’t you love the bright colors?

You will need: 3 blank ATC’s on watercolor paper, watercolor, PVA glue or a glue stick, scissors, small brush, water, collage paper (or tissue paper), markers

I’m using the Dr. P.H. Martin’s Bombay Inks in Teal, Green, Violet, Blue, and Brown. You can use any cheap watercolor or india/bombay ink!

First let’s begin by wetting the ATC with water. Be generous!

Dip your brush in watercolor then drip gently on the wet ATC (it should be a little drippy). The ink/watercolor will spread beautifully.

Let it dry a little. Wet the ATC again and dip you brush again.

Do the same for the other 2 ATC’s. Have fun creating patterns with the water and spreading the ink.

This technique creates very cool watery flowy theme.

Let the cards dry to touch. Take your collage/tissue paper out. I’m using these Jane Davenport Collage Papers.

Cut out little pieces of collage paper/tissue paper and glue it down in spots.

After the glue is dry and not sticky, letter a saying or short phrase on the cards.

I used a Tombow Fude (brush marker) to letter the phrase.

What do you think? Did you try it out? Send your photos to our gallery!
